The Curl Hangout

Hi Aspirers!

Yesterday I had the chance to volunteer at a natural hair event called “The Curl Hangout” in Durham, NC. I helped with their social media posts. I always hear a lot about natural hair events everywhere else and it was great to finally have an event near me. You know I couldn’t miss the opportunity. The panel for this event was phenomenal and the ladies gave us some tips about hair such as

  • Oil your hair last. Oil locks your hair from getting moisture.
  • Transition at your own pace. Transition to fit your lifestyle.
  • Don’t big shop if you’re not ready.
  • Low maintenance when transitioning.
  • The right hair tools make a difference.
  • Water evaporates from your hair every 3 days.

I also had a chance to meet and talk to women that had the same questions and concerns as I did. This was such an awesome event and hope Clarissa who coordinated it all continues this event in the future.

As I was working the event I had the chance to also record a little bit for you all. I could leave you all hanging! Check it out and also check out the Instagrams of the ladies on the panel and the vendors. The links are down below under the video. To make sure you don’t miss out on any events by The Curl Hangout follow The Curl Hangout for their future events!

TommyXZendaya 70s & 80s Inspired Capsule Collection

Hey Aspirers,

Did you all get the chance to watch Zendaya introduced her Tommy Hilfiger collaboration during Paris Fashion Week last night and she shut it DOWN! So many amazing pieces and guess what it’s also available in CURVY SIZES!

Zendaya’s RTW (Ready To Wear) collection features accessories, shoes, handbags, t-shirts, denim, blouses, pants, shorts, skirts, dresses, blazers, swimwear, and underwear. So much to choose from. A range of sizes to choose from. The prices range from $25.50 to $1,295.

There are a couple of things I’m disappointed in with this collection.  The shoe sizes go only goes up to 9.5. With such a variety of clothes sizes, I would expect a variety of shoe sizes as well. There are so many women I know that their shoe sizes are 10 and up. I have weird feet because I range from 8.5 to 10.  One big thing the collection is lacking in different lengths in pants. I saw Tyra Banks on Instagram all googly-eyed over this collection and she definitely needs longer than a 32-inch inseam especially for those wider pant trousers. I’m hoping more shoe sizes and pant length options will be available soon.

Overall, this is a great looking collection and I want to buy so many of her pieces especially the High Neck Lurex Bodysuit that Grace Jones wore when she graced her presence on the runway. Grace Jones started her career in the 70s and has actress, model, and singer she made a way for herself. At 70 years old, yes I said it 70 years old she rocked it on stage last night and stole the show.

Being alone doesn’t make you lonely

Happy Valentines Day Aspirers,

Today some of you might be celebrating with your special loved ones either today or maybe later on in the week because it’s hard to stay up past 10:00 pm on a weekday. For myself, I will be spinning time with the one person that means the most to me which is MYSELF. I have no problem with that but for others like myself, some of your friends and family might wonder why are you spending the 6th, 7th, 8th year (who’s really counting anyway) alone on Valentine’s Day. A lot of questions might be asked and the big question on people’s minds  is “Are you lonely?”

Guess what that’s a great question. Anyone can be lonely. You could be in a committed relationship, married, or have kids and still feel lonely. The presence of someone else might not define the well-being of your mental state. You can be around someone every day but something feels like something is missing. There are people out in the world that never experienced being alone and still have unanswered questions about themselves because they’ve constantly been around people for so long they haven’t found confidence in their own skin.

For the longest, I was terrified to eat alone because I thought I would be judged of not having anyone to eat or laugh with at the table. I was so uncomfortable being seen by myself. It sounds weird saying that out loud but it was true. I just went to the movies alone for the first time last year and guess what it was AWESOME! I love being alone at home but enjoy my own company in public is on a whole other level. I even walk away from my girls when we are out to use the restroom by myself. Ladies don’t act like you all don’t go to the bathroom in groups especially the college ladies that are reading this right now.

It’s okay to have anxiety but the only way to get over something is to try it. If there’s a new movie out, a new restaurant to try, a new store in the mall that just opened up I can’t wait for other people to make room in their schedule sometimes. I have to enjoy it first and tell them about it later. Being able to find joy in your own company makes it easier to find joy while with others. We have to be honest with ourselves sometimes it’s not the other person that is causing the problem because we might be the problem. Don’t expect others to bring joy into your life if you can’t enjoy yourself.

Ask yourself this question, are you lonely?

Sincerely, Courtney Renee
