Recap on Greensboro’s 1st Fashion Week

Fashion week in Greensboro is over and I was happy to be a part of Greensboro’s history. I can say “I volunteered at the first Greensboro Fashion Week!!!!” Even though this isn’t the first show I worked for and it’s definitely not going to be my last I’m glad I can make this Fashion Week one of my stepping stones in moving further into my career in fashion.

A lot of people came and saw great collections and behind everything great there are people working around the clock making sure you the viewers will be pleased. There were planning, networking, organizing, learning, teaching, scheduling, etc for this show but it was all worth it in the end. Through this experience I met great people, networked, added experience to my resume, and had a lot of fun.

Spotlight Interview: Aminah Lawson

This weekend I had a great opportunity to attend a salon opening called Crie Natural which is a local business in Greensboro, NC. There I met and interviewed the owner and creator of the salon. I wanted to take the time to know the owner and find out what inspired her to become a business owner and who is inspired by her.

Name: Aminah Lawson

Occupation: Licensed Cosmetologist, Natural Hair Stylist, and a Product Manufacture in Greensboro, NC

Q1: A lot of people think that hair makes the person, and since you decided to cut of all your hair how do you feel about that comment?

Answer: How you would wear your hair is a reflection on how you feel about yourself. I cut my hair because i feel comfortable not having hair. To me how a person chooses to wear their hair long, straight, curly, short is a reflection on who they are as an individual.

Q2: Who inspires you in natural hair or as an individual in a daily life?

Answer: Definitely my mother, she’s an entrepreneur. She has never worked for anyone else. She inspired me to work for myself. When it comes to me being a stylist I have so many people I am inspired by in the beauty industry. My aunt is a hairstylist and my hairstylist when I was a child. They were the ones that inspired me to want to be in the beauty industry.

Q3: Are there a few people that are currently looking up to you right now?

Answer: My assistant. She actually will be starting cosmetology school soon and I have been doing her hair since she was about 11 years old. I think I have inspired her to want to be in the beauty industry.

Q4: Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Answer: By the grace of God having more than one salon Crie around the country.

If you are interested in her services or products she is located
